Steve Kealy - Certified Golf Course Superintendent
Steve was hired as the assistant superintendent in May of 1987 after his graduation from WSU, where he earned a BS degree in Agronomy. He was hired as Glendale's superintendent in April of 1990. He married his wife Chrissy in '96, and their son John was born in July of 2003. His interests include golf, muscle cars of the 1960's, and coaching his son's sports teams.
Kyle Young - Assistant Superintendent
Kyle has been with Glendale since he graduated high school in 1999. Upon completing his Turf education at Rutgers University, he has been our Assistant since 2007. Kyle is an avid hunter, golfer, Chelsea FC fan, world traveler, and was married to his lovely wife Molly in October 2012. And always at his side is his trusty Goose chaser, Kody. A four year old Chocolate Lab, Kody came to Glendale in the winter of 2007 and just might be the luckiest dog alive. Whether chasing birds or golf balls around the shop, Kody puts a smile on everyone's face and we love having him around!
Josh Cheney - Assistant Superintendent
Josh too has been working at Glendale since 1999. His dad Mark, is a former Assistant at Glendale, and his sister Mandy, works in the clubhouse. There has been a Cheney at Glendale for nearly 20 years! Josh received his Turf degree from Cal State-Riverside in 2009, and married his beautiful wife Jessica at Glendale in September of 2012. Josh is an expert at running all of our equipment, and can do anything in our operation from spraying greens to running the irrigation system to helping our mechanic in the shop. Josh is a big golfer, camper, Liverpool FC fan, and watches as much NFL football as possible.
Martin "Swiss" Schaer - Crew Foreman
"Swiss" as we all call him on the crew, has been at Glendale full-time since 1978 and hails from, you guessed it, Switzerland. Having served in the Swiss Army and traveling most of the globe, Martin came to America and has been at Glendale ever since. There isn't a harder worker out there and when we need something done, you only have to tell him once and it's as good as done. Swiss primarily takes care of what he likes to call "Amen Corner" on the backside (holes 12-14) and he takes tremendous pride in his job. Swiss is a huge soccer fan and when he's not at Glendale, he's taking road trips throughout the Northwest.
Deane Austin - Greenskeeper/Mr. Do Everything
Deane has been at Glendale since 1983, previously having worked at Walter Hall and Tam O'Shanter golf courses. Deane is our primary rough mower and resident construction expert. When we need to build a bridge or any other kind of structure, Deane has the experience and expertise to get the job done. Every winter he also refinishes all of Glendale's benches. Deane also enjoys a wonderful family life having been married for 45 years and has 4 grandchildren. Some of Dean's passions include golf, horse racing, and NASCAR!
Frank Walker - Irrigation Technician
Frank first started working at Glendale in 1977 and worked here for ten years before leaving to pursue other opportunities. He returned in 1992 to oversee Glendale's irrigation system installation, and has been here ever since. Frank works tirelessly during the summer to keep Glendale green, which is a huge job in itself fixing sprinkler heads and irrigation leaks, as well as programming the computer system daily to make sure conditions on the course are just right. During the winter months, nobody knows drainage like Frank. He's an encyclopedia of knowledge and knows exactly where everything is located underground at Glendale. In his off time, there is nothing Frank likes more than spending time with his wife of 18 years and 6 grandchildren, along with hitting the water fishing.
Genero Jimenez - Greenskeeper
Genaro came to Glendale in 1998 previously having worked at Willows Run during their grow in. Genaro is an expert greenskeeper with years of experience that shows in his work. During the summer he can be found mowing greens and keeping his section of the course looking pristine. A tireless worker, he also has his own landscaping business which keeps him busy after he leaves Glendale. Genaro was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, and came to America in 1986. He got his American Citizenship in 2000, and has been married for 28 years. He has two sons who have both worked at Glendale during the summer months, and one daughter.
Vic Videll - Spray Tech/2nd assistant superintendent
Vic came to Glendale in 1996 having previously worked at Bear Creek Country Club, as well as working with Tom Fazio in Florida. Originally from Connecticut, Vic is a passionate golfer, poker player, home remodel expert, and enjoys cheering on his Philadelphia Eagles. Outside of Glendale, Vic has his own investigative business as well. Vic is our Swiss Army Knife...he can do everything. One day he might be spraying greens, the next he could be aerating fairways or trenching drain lines. Every course needs a few guys who can play multiple roles on a crew, and Vic is ours!
Chris "Coach" Garcia - Greenskeeper
Chris came to Glendale in 2000, needing a change in scenery from the typical office job and we couldn't be any happier that he did. Year in and year out, nobody logs more hours at Glendale than Chris, or as all of us on the crew call him, Coach (Chris was a part-time high school football coach for a couple years) and during the summer months, Chris runs his own section of the golf course. One of the nicest people you'd ever meet, Chris loves to golf, camp, travel and play poker.
Nate Smith - Greenskeeper
Nate came to Glendale in 2006 and has been a perfect fit at Glendale. Nate runs his own section of holes at Glendale and keeps everything up to par. We never have to tell Nate what he needs to do, he just gets it done. One thing about working on a golf course is that it allows one to hone in their golfing skills, and Nate has worked tirelessly in improving his game, every year getting better. Nate is also our resident sports guru, always plugged into the local sports topics, especially the Seahawks!
Mario Garza - Greenskeeper
Mario arrived at Glendale in 2004, previously working at Teufel Landscaping. Keeping up the landscape beds around Glendale is a huge task, and Mario is the best there is. Most courses have at least one full-time horticulturist where all they do is tend to the beds. Mario does this AND undertakes the responsibilities of a regular crew member. His tasks range from blowing and sweeping around the clubhouse and parking lots, to mowing greens and tees. With the continuing expansion and revitalization of our landscape beds around the clubhouse and entry way, Mario has a huge responsibility in keeping them weed-free and looking good. No one does it better!
